3 Effective ways to sleep train your baby
Sleep Training is basically helping your infant learns how to sleep well on their own, without any help. It is much easier than you think, right? There is a lot of advice on how to sleep train, leaving many new parents bewildered, frustrated, and wondering what sleep training really is and how to go about it. This article will try to provide some simple answers that will hopefully clear up a few of the mysteries about sleep training.
Ditch the sleep crutches
The first step in any sleep training method is to ditch the sleep crutches. These are simply short-term solutions to the problems of sleep deprivation. Many parents have spent countless hours trying to solve this problem. Unfortunately, nothing works better than sleeping crutches, because they do not teach proper posture. If you really want to get serious about teaching your child good sleep habits, then this is not the way to go.
Set a bedtime routine
A much better sleep training method is to gradually move into getting your baby to go to bed at different times. To start, set the bedtime routine. Get your baby used to going to bed at the same time every day. This will help set the stage for your baby’s circadian rhythm to synchronize properly with their internal systems. When this happens, sleepiness sets in much earlier, resulting in your baby feeling less sleepy.
Set a nursery scene
Once you set the nursery scene, stick to it. You can set the nursery to a calm and quiet time of day. Then go about gradually transitioning into getting your baby used to his bedtime routine. This can include changing from his traditional sleeping spot (the nursery) to a bigger and cozier one in his room.
Continue to follow your routines until he is fully used to going to bed and waking up at the same time each day. You should try to establish bedtime 15 minutes before he gets sleepy. Once this is set, gently rock him to sleep while singing a lullaby or doing some breathing exercises. You should do this without getting him to move his legs. Eventually, he will be used to being lifted out of the crib.
